Wounderland: Photos Of Grotesque Monsters Accompanied By Mounted Animals

Mothmeister is the Belgium-based couple behind these brilliantly creepy portraits of grotesque characters and their little companions – real mounted animals. They pose for their photos in extraordinary monster costumes and terrifying masks with all sorts of ghoulish details.

“ We portray anonymous, ugly masked creatures as a reaction against the dominant exhibitionism of the selfie culture and beauty standards marketed by the mass media, ” the couple writes on boredpanda.

As they are both passionate taxidermy collectors, they have plenty of animal companions for their nightmarish and lonesome two-legged characters. The creators point out that the mounted critters are given a second life – they dress them in the same fashions that Victorian taxidermist Walter Potter used with his work.
