Woodcraft By Design is a creative woodworking studio from Aukland, New Zealand, which offers to fill an inlay with “paua, greenstone, coins, jewellery, kauri gum, shells, bugs and in fact almost any type of material you would like.” Some examples show starfish and various shells, likely taking advantageof New Zealand’s nautical location.

The material used in the process is likely a clear resin (it has so many uses), which allows one to have more ambitious inlays. Why not turn a crack in your wooden table into a canyon with two miniature battle lines advancing on each other?
