This Diner Charges Its Customers A 38 Cent “Stupid Question” Tax
If you’ve ever worked in customer service you probably know ridiculous some customers’ questions can be. And just when you think you’ve heard the dumbest question anyone could think of, a new customer comes in with an even more absurd one. Knowing that no matter what they do, people will still ask stupid questions, a restaurant called Tom’s Diner came up with something called a “stupid question” tax – a 38 cent charge for every stupid question asked.
The Denver diner came up with a hilarious 38 cent “stupid question” tax

It’s most likely aimed at customers who waste the waiters’ time by asking questions that could be answered by simply using a little common sense. But hey, ask all the silly questions you want – just have some change ready.

It’s even an item on the menu!

The restaurant doesn’t want to offend anyone, the menu option is only added as a little joke. And people seem to love it – a Reddit user recently shared their check with the “stupid question” tax and it instantly went viral.

“It’s meant to be playful. It’s good to keep things light in today’s world,” explained Hunter Landry in an interview with TODAY Food. “When we have a good fun table that engages with us or when they ask about the charge, it’s always fun to add it on.”

People loved the idea and some even tried to come up with purposely stupid questions like “Are there any dues for the turkey club sandwich?” and “Does the ice have any water in it?”

It’s not the first time the restaurant includes funny options in their menu – a while ago they offered hilarious “Skip Your Next Meal” and “Walk Home” options.
