This Artist Creates Comics With Unexpected Twists For Dark Humor Lovers (35 Pics)

In an interview with Bored Panda, ToonHole Chris, whose real name is Chris Allison, said he has been creating comics for 10 whole years. The artist revealed that for him, inspiration for comics can come from anywhere. “A conversation, a book, an overheard conversation, a misheard word, or seeing somebody trip on the sidewalk. There are no rules!” said Chris. The artist uses all sorts of digital and analog materials to create his comics and it takes him about three hours to finish a single one.

Chris revealed that he always wanted to do art and remembers drawing for other kids back at school to this day. “My advice for anybody looking to make comics to make people laugh is simply: do it. There is no shortcut or secret path to get good at making comics other than making comics. Do good drawings, do bad drawings, do whatever drawings you can,” advised the artist.

“Everyone falls flat once in a while (my comics probably more frequently than others), so don’t beat yourself up about it. Failure is part of growth, not evidence of your potential,” continued Chris. “Keep finishing comics, and just try to make the next one even better! I’m still trying to do this. Right before I die, I’ll make the perfect comic! I hope some of you join me for the ride.”

Like many other artist’s, Chris’ life was also affected by the pandemic although he considers himself lucky as he was able to stay employed. “My animation day job has been unaffected as most of our work from studios is able to be done from home. I’ve worked in TV for 11 years (SpongeBob, Looney Tunes, Uncle Grandpa) and I’m working on my first feature film,” said Chris. “After my work is done, I draw even more to make the comics you see here. Even though there is a lot of tragedy in the world right now, I’m trying to use my time to bring as much laughter as I can to people.”
