This Art Museum Lets Street Artists Do What They Want On Its Walls
The Long Beach Museum Of Art recently did the unthinkable. The Californian establishment let a group of contemporary artists have complete free reign over its pristine white walls for two weeks. Why? For its latest exhibit – Vitality and Verve: Transforming The Urban Landscape. The exhibit will run from June 27 to September 27 2015, and its once white walls will showcase awesome mix of graffiti, street art, mixed installations and old-school canvas paintings.
Speaking about the event, the museum’s Executive Director, Ron Nelson, said “one of the goals behind Vitality and Verve is to spotlight artists who are stepping out of their studios to paint on a grand scale using outdoor walls as their canvas, as well as urban artists who are beginning to work in a traditional studio setting.” At the time of writing, the Long Beach Post reported an estimated 3,000 unique visitors had already made their way through the museum’s doors, making it the biggest opening in the institution’s 65-year history.

Artist Paints Realistic Portraits On His Hands And Stamps Them On Paper
Art in the palm of your hand? You got it! California-based artist, Russell Powell, paints celebrities’ faces on the palm of his hand. He then transfers them to paper, using his self-titled “hand-stamping” technique.
Russell adds intricate facial features and dramatic shading, which give his creations a spectacular, three-dimensional appearance. He works quickly enough to ensure the paint doesn’t dry before he puts palm to paper.
By adding his hand-print, Russell’s creations get a distinctive personal touch, and will always remain unique to him.
