Talented Kids’ Book Illustrator Was Rejected By Publishers But She Never Gave Up

Nidhi Chanani has for the longest time wished to publish her own children’s book. Despite the publishers kept turning her down, she found success in her art. Chanani’s drawings are soft and use pastel colors that are much more pleasing to the eye than the saccharine hues that are imposed on children.

Nidhi Chanani comes from Calcutta and lives in the San Francisco bay area. While she was looking for a publisher, people started buying her art and hanging it in their children’s rooms. “My prints were above her son’s bed. I realized then that children are growing up with this art,” Chanani wrote on Bored Panda. “My work is now on the walls of my daughter’s nursery. So maybe I don’t have a kids book they can love, but I have the next best thing. Children wake up and drift off to dreams looking at my art. For me, that’s a big success.”
