Photographer Shows How Much People Changed In 20 Years In 17 Before And After Pics
Daniel Meadows is a British photographer who has been documenting the life of people in England for over 40 years. Back in the 1970s, the photographer set up something called the Free Photographic Omnibus – a double-decker bus which he used to travel around England and take portraits of people. In the 1990s, Daniel decided to do the same thing again and try to find the people whose portraits he had taken over 20 years ago.
The photographer has collected some of his best photographs in a book titled Now and Then and will present some of them in an exhibition at the Weston Library, Bodleian Libraries, from 4 October to 24 November.

34 portraits, arranged in pairs, will be presented in the exhibition. Each will show the same people in the 1970s and the 1990s. The exhibition will also include short stories based on the photographer’s personal archive of letters, newspaper cuttings, diaries, and journals.

“Daniel Meadows is one of Britain’s national treasures. He is one of our great documentary photographers. His work is both concerned and humane, and engages individuals and communities thoughtfully and sympathetically,” said Richard Ovenden, Bodley’s librarian. “His body of work, stretching for almost fifty years, charts major social changes in Britain, but always has the lives and lived experiences of people at its heart.”

“Daniel Meadows: Now and Then through his photographs, videos and other material from his archive, provides Daniel’s unique perspective on British society in recent decades. We are truly honored to have been gifted his archive which will be a major resource for scholars and an inspiration for photographers,” added Ovenden.
