Lockets Hiding Miniature Hand-Painted Universes Inside
New York-based jewelry designer Khara Ledonne has been making lockets enhanced with miniature hand-painted astronomical images, or as she calls them – mini escapes: “ You know, the place you want to go instead of where you are. “
Every painting is unique and almost impossible to duplicate. Before she’s done, she also oxidizes the locket to give it that premium aged look.
“ Ironically, my work used to be huge. I started painting murals at age 16, ” said Khara. “ During my mid-twenties, I discovered a few lockets at a metal shop and dabbled inside them, creating simple silhouettes of birds or trees using my enamel sign paint. With a lot of encouragement and a few sales from friends, I opened an Etsy shop in 2007. “
