These beautiful intricate paper cuttings are the work of Buffalo-born artist Maude White. The talented artist, who also owns the Brave Bird Paperwork & Jewelry paper art and handmade felt jewelry company, transmits little gentle stories through her fragile paper cuttings.

Coming from a family of visual storytellers, she was fascinated by the various stories and ways of telling them that she experienced in her youth. The discovery of paper as a medium for her own visual stories came next.

“ When I cut paper, I feel as if I am peeling back the outer, superficial layer of our vision to reveal the secret space beneath, ” writes White. “ I have great respect for paper. When I cut, the thin membranous material reveals its strength to me. ”

“ I feel that there are very few things in the world as reliable and constant as paper, ” adds White. “ Paper is everywhere and it has been telling stories for centuries. “
