Bolt Poetry: Blacksmith Evokes Emotion In Steel By Bending It Into Human Shapes

Nails, nuts and bolts aren’t very emotional things by themselves. But that’s where artists come in! Tobbe Malm, a Swedish blacksmith and photographer living in Oslo, has made Bolt Poetry: tiny, emotion filled sculptures made from bolts. Collected from a Swedish farm where they were rusting away, these bolts were transformed into people. People who seem to be grieving, a lot.

“ The bolts reminded me of human forms, and I felt they had something to tell. I heated them, forged, bent and twisted. ” Tobbe writes on his website “ I tried to create relations, meetings and situations and suddenly stories emerged about sorrow, joy, pain, warmth and humour. A kind of poetry was created, hence the title. ” Somehow, I haven’t noticed neither joy nor humour.

Maybe the honorable reader has senses more acute than mine!
