Artists From All Over The World Respond To Tragic Death Of 3-Year-Old Syrian Refugee
Wednesday, September the 2nd, was the day when Turkish police found the body of 3-year-old Syrian refugee, Aylan Kurdi, washed up on the shore. He had drowned, together with his 5-year-old brother Ghalib and mother Rehand, while trying to escape Syria and reach the Greek island of Kos. The image shocked people worldwide, becoming a poignant example of the strugglepeople fleeing the Syrian Civil War face every day. Artists around the world have responded to the tragedy with their works, calling for action.
The Syrian Civil War has been raging since 2011. It has claimed up to 300,000 lives, and internally displaced more than 7 million Syrians. Around 4 millions are seeking refuge status in other countries, 1,7 million of whom are sheltered in nearby Turkey. Now, the European Union is facing an unprecedented and tragic seaborne influx of refugees.
