Architects Turned Boring Electricity Pylons Into Majestic Human-Shaped Statues In Iceland

Icelanders had enough of the ugly structures stretching across their landscape, which itself is a miracle of nature . A group of architects called Choi+Shine turned mundane electricity pylons into art, naming the project “The Land Of Giants”.

“Making only minor alterations to well established steel-framed tower design, we have created a series of towers that are powerful, solemn and variable,” the architects write on their website. “Seeing the pylon-figures will become an unforgettable experience, elevating the towers to something more than merely a functional design of necessity.”

The artistry of this project was rewarded with a BSA Unbuilt Architecture Award in 2010.
