20 Majestic Horse Photographs Captured In Icelandic Landscapes, By Petra Marita
Petra Marita Leifsdóttir, a professional photographer residing in the stunning landscapes of Iceland, has passionately blended her two greatest loves – the Icelandic horse and the country’s breathtaking nature – in her recent photo series titled “Icelandic Horse.”
The Icelandic horse holds a special place in the equestrian world as a distinctive breed. Though compact in size, these horses possess remarkable toughness. Originating from a mix of breeds brought to Iceland by the Vikings in the past, the Icelandic horse has evolved into one of the purest equine breeds globally, mainly due to the geographical isolation of their homeland. Interestingly, no other horse breed has entered Iceland for over a millennium, adding to the breed’s unique and pure characteristics.
