Brutalist architecture first became popular during the 1950s in the United Kingdom and is characterized by minimalist constructions that highlight the buildings structural elements rather than decorative ornamentation. Though criticized for the styles rough outward appearance and unwelcoming nature, the trend has recently regained popularity. This led to the birth of the BRUTgroup Instagram account dedicated to following this strange but oddly fascinating aesthetic.
